Guess we'll be seeing less of Posh and Becks here these days. Lesser stars will just have to twinkle more brightly. More than a century ago J Sheekey was founded as an olde Englishe style fish restaurant. More recently adopted by the Ivy and Caprice group, the updating has been just as smart as you'd imagine. Top-hatted doormen wait outside. Inside there are crackly leather banquettes, dark panelled walls, British paintings of the 40's and 50's, subtle lighting, and acoustics designed to be both buzzy and intimate. How do they do that? The dish is fish. According to us, you could try anything. Of special note are the fruits de mer, the jellied eels, the half-lobster with home-made mayo, and the beluga with blinis and sour cream to start. Mains include grilled whole Dover sole, Sheekey's own fish pie, and fillet of seabass with seaweed risotto and clams. You could have a savoury like herring roes on toast to follow or go straight for a pud, especially the raspberry and champagne jelly with organic cream. Service is exemplary. Meat dishes are available, but why?
