A popular staging-post on the 'golden mile', Friends Tandoori has been a Leicester institution for nearly 25 years. Its fab, fresh and original Indian food has won several awards and keeps a loyal clientele coming back for more. There's even food for thought, in the quotations on the menu from the likes of Vikram Seth and Mahatma Gandhi. For starters, try saunfia paneer - Indian cheese sandwiched with aniseed, fresh mint, coriander, ginger and dried pomegranate seeds. Mains include murg sheek gilafi (sizzling minced chicken kebabs with a ginger and coriander kick) and fish goanese, spiced with mustard seeds and creamy with coconut. Children are welcome and the service is fast and friendly. A pretty impressive wine list, English real ales and Indian lagers complete the picture.
