What are the insurance implications of renting out a space or using a space?

Car Insurance:
Parking your car in someone else's driveway does not affect your car insurance as long as you do not leave your vehicle at the alternative location for a period of more than six months within the same year. (i.e. the main location of the car is still at it's registered address). Please note that just like when you park at a standard commercial car park or on the main road, you leave your car at your own risk. We suggest that you contact your car insurance company the first time you use a space just to be sure that your policy covers your car.

Home Insurance :
Depending on your insurance company and on what kind of policy you have, the cover provided will differ. We recommend that you contact your home insurance provider to confirm that your policy covers you for renting out your parking space.

Park at my House.com strongly suggests that you contact your insurance company to check that you are happy with any implications which renting out your parking space may have.

Does my space have to be available all the time?

No, the space doesn't have to be available full-time. Using the availability calendar on the website, space owners should just advertise the selective times when it is. You can make your space available for any length of time between thirty minutes and one year.

Motorists and cyclists can arrange to leave their vehicle in a driveway on a one-off or regular, short-term or long-term basis

How much does it cost to rent a space?

The cost of renting a space is up to the space owner. ParkatmyHouse.com is not involved in setting a price.

The cost of a space depends on many different variables including the distance to major transport links and proximity to major attractions or high streets. It also varies according to the facilities available with the space including lighting and CCTV security, and whether it is underground or not.

How do I pay for the parking space?

You will need to agree on the preferred payment method with the parking space owner directly (cash on arrival, cheque, secure online PayPal payment etc.).

Who can rent out a parking space?

Anyone with a driveway, garage or other piece of land that isn’t in use all the time. It may be that you don’t own a car or that your driveway has space for two cars but you only own one, or that you are away at work for most of the day and your driveway sits empty. You can rent out your space whenever you like and for whatever length of time you like, from half an hour to 24/7.

Businesses such as pubs or offices as well as homeowners can rent out their parking spaces through ParkatmyHouse.com.

How much could I earn from renting out my parking space?

This varies according to a range of factors such as where the space is located, the length of time you are renting out the space for and whether there is a high demand for parking in the area. Most people letting out their spot can expect to earn around £30 a week. However, this can rise significantly in some areas, especially near major public transport hubs or right in the city centre. Some spaces are earning over £3000 a year and parking spaces around sports venues are going for £10 a day.

When deciding how much to let out your space for, consider the demand for parking in your area. If there is a nearby car park or pay-and-display bay, you may want your price to be more competitive than the cost of either of these Have a browse on ParkatmyHouse.com to see what other Space Owners with a similar offering are asking for. You can always modify your price at a later date or discuss it when a Parker contacts you about using your space.

Is it safe to let out my parking space to someone I don’t know?

ParkatmyHouse.com does not publish the exact address of a space in the general listings. As a Space Owner, you will disclose this to a Parker at your discretion once a transaction has taken place or for viewing purposes. Once you have agreed a transaction, a parking agreement contract is available for download. This contract has been professionally drafted by our legal team.

We recommend that before the first day of rental you ask your Parker for details about the make and model of the car that will be parking in your driveway and a description of the driver and any passengers that will be showing up.

Do you provide a contract for us to sign between ourselves?

ParkatmyHouse.com provides six different types of contract as well as a branded ready to use standing order form. The documents are all accessible from your account page.

If you are unsure about the status of your available space, please contact your local council before listing your space on our site.

Can I list a resident permit holder space on ParkatmyHouse.com?

ParkatmyHouse.com provides a means by which people who have the legal right to decide how a piece of land is used, can rent it as a parking space. If your space is provided to you by the council then it is unlikely that you are legally allowed to rent this out to other people. ParkatmyHouse.com does not encourage the sale or lease of resident permits since the land concerned is council property.

If you are unsure about the status of your available space, please contact your local council before listing your space on our site.

What if I have rented out my space but need it for a one-off occasion?

It may happen. Perhaps a guest is coming to stay or you have builders in for the day and you really need your parking space. You probably don't have any legal right to demand it, but what you can do is talk to your Parker and offer to cover the cost of a local car park for the day.

Once you have completed your registration, you will have access to your own administration section where you can add or edit information about your parking space and also view any messages that users have sent you regarding it.
