Chester is a town located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River Valley in Randolph County, Illinois. The population was 8,400 at the 2000 census. Chester Bridge
The Chester Bridge is a truss bridge connecting Missouri's Route 51 with Illinois Route 150 across the Mississippi River between Perryville, Missouri and Chester, Illinois. The Chester Bridge can be seen in the beginning of the 1967 film "in the Heat of the Night". In the 1940's the main span was destroyed by a tornado.
